“As we work to fully adopt our Wellness and Fitness Initiative, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Katherine Matousek step up to serve as Health and Fitness Coordinator, a position integral to the success of our new program,” says AVFD Chief Michael Trick. “Katherine has been a valued member of the Department for five years, most notably coordinating our monthly member newsletter and spearheading our annual golf tournament. We are privileged to now benefit from her vast health and fitness expertise as well.”

An Avon resident since 2006, Katherine Matousek is passionate about health and fitness. Currently, she is a Group Exercise Instructor at Avon Healthtrax. She is certified in CPR/AED, and she is certified to teach Spinning, Group Core, Interval, ViPR, and Barre Pilates classes. This fall, Matousek will complete a Personal Training course.

As Health and Fitness Coordinator, Matousek reports to the AVFD medical officer, Captain Adam Corrado, MD. She serves as the administrator of the health and fitness program – a component of the AVFD’s newly created and adopted Wellness and Fitness Initiative – overseeing its day to day operation and ensuring the program remains viable.

About the AVFD’s Wellness and Fitness Initiative

Directed by Medical Officer Captain Adam Corrado, MD, the AVFD’s Wellness and Fitness Initiative is a newly created comprehensive health and safety program. It is a 10-year progressive plan designed to improve the health and safety of AVFD members and, in turn, enhance the Department’s preparedness and effectiveness in meeting the needs of the community and region.

“The ultimate goal is to maximize longevity, minimize disability, and have a firefighting force that is ready to answer the call expertly,” says Captain Corrado. “After all, that’s what our citizens expect and deserve when they call for help, every time they need it.”
