Reller and Gelber Promoted to Lieutenant

At its July Meeting, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department officially congratulated two new Lieutenants:  Tom Reller and Aaron Gelber.  AVFD president and Fire Police Lieutenant Ken Sedlak administered the swearing in of the two men who joined the AVFD as Explorers when they were in high school.  Both men will serve at Company Three on West Avon Road.

Part of the AVFD since 2005, Tom Reller is a fourth generation firefighter.  His grandfather was a president of the AVFD and his great grandfather was a member of FDNY.  Reller became a regular member in 2010 and has completed Fire Fighter I and Fire Fighter II.

Aaron Gelber has been with the AVFD since 2008.  He became a regular member in 2011 and has completed Fire Fighter I, Fire Fighter II, and the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Basic Wild Land Fire Training.  He was recognized for his contributions during Superstorm Sandy.

About the AVFD

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department prides itself on the selflessness and dedication of its members – firefighters, fire police, administrative members, Explorers, active veterans, senior veterans, and associate members, all of whom play a vital role in the safety of Avon. The Department operates six companies and 15 pieces of apparatus, including a brush truck, ladder truck, tanker, rescue vehicle, boat, and pumpers. Four stations are located throughout Town – Company 1 on Darling Drive, Company 2 on Secret Lake Road, Company 3 on West Avon Road, and Company 4 on Huckleberry Hill Road.
