Over the past 65 years, more than 500 Avon residents have donated their time to the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Department is constantly looking for dedicated volunteers to help with fire fighting, rescue, and administration.

All personnel must pass a medical physical provided prior to the posting of their application. Upon acceptance of an application each member goes through a one year probationary period. Types of Members:

Firefighter

Avon Volunteer Firefighters are trained to the same standards as career fire fighters.

  • Support: Assist in firefighting and rescue operations.
  • Entry Level: Perform firefighting and support rescue operations. (Fire I Level)
  • Team Leaders: Supervise Firefighters and perform firefighting and rescue services. (Fire II Level)
Fire Police

Avon Volunteer Fire Police train to provide firefighters with an environment that is safe from external sources, and to provide assistance at motor vehicle incidents.

Administration

Administrative specialties include human resources, accounting, fundraising, etc.

Explorers

Explorers are youth members, 14-21 years of age, who provide support services at emergency scenes.
