SWEARS IN NEW OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTER
Fire Chief Michael Trick Welcomes New Captain and Lieutenant to Ranks
June 1, 2016 | Avon, CT – Avon Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Trick proudly announces the promotion of an officer, the appointment of a new officer, and the addition of a new firefighter. Lieutenant Ramona Mansfield has been promoted to the position of Captain of Company 2, and firefighter Jeremy Kaswer has been promoted to Lieutenant, also at Company 2. In addition, Andy Ozmun has been sworn in as a firefighter.
“It is always exciting to promote and welcome new leadership,” says Avon Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Trick. “Captain Mansfield and Lieutenant Kaswer have proven their dedication to the Department time and time again, and we are extremely lucky to have their experience and leadership. We are also thrilled to officially welcome Andy Ozmun as a firefighter – he has worked hard this past year to complete the necessary training.”
Captain Ramona Mansfield joined the AVFD in 2009. She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013. She has earned numerous training certifications, including Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician, and Fire Instructor I.
Lieutenant Jeremy Kaswer joined the AVFD in 2012. Among the different training certificated he has earned are Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician. Lt. Kaswer is a medical student at UConn and is an Army National Guard Medical Officer. He is also a volunteer EMT for New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance.
Firefighter Andy Ozmun joined the AVFD in March 2015 and is a member of Company 2.
About the AVFD
Incorporated in 1943, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects more than 18,000 people living in the 22.6 square mile area that makes up the Town of Avon. The Department’s mission is to provide fire suppression and prevention, life safety and rescue support, as well as other community support to the citizens of the Town of Avon. In addition, the Department provides mutual aid support to those surrounding communities that, in time of need, may request such assistance.
Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department prides itself on the selflessness and dedication of its members – firefighters, fire police, administrative members, Explorers, active veterans, senior veterans, and associate members, all of whom play a vital role in the safety of Avon. The Department operates six companies and 15 pieces of apparatus, including a brush truck, ladder truck, tanker, rescue vehicle, boat, and pumpers. Four stations are located throughout Town – Company 1 on Darling Drive, Company 2 on Secret Lake Road, Company 3 on West Avon Road, and Company 4 on Huckleberry Hill Road.
