Avon Volunteer Fire Department Seeks a YES Vote at Special Town Meeting on January 24, 2023 for New Fire Engine and Ladder Truck

Avon Volunteer Fire Department’s new apparatus will replace old units to better equip the department for current and future emergency call volume in the community of Avon ,CT. Avon, CT. (January 16, 2023) – The Avon Volunteer Fire Department is seeking support from the community to vote YES for the purchase of a new Fire Engine and Ladder Truck on January 24, 2023, 7:00 pm at the Avon High School Auditorium (located at 510 West Avon Rd., Avon, CT). This will be a hand vote and only registered voters who qualify will be allowed to vote.

The Town of Avon has recommended the purchase of two new fire apparatus as part of a fleet modernization initiative to replace units that have reached the end of their expected service life. This necessary purchase will best equip the Avon Volunteer Fire Department to safely and effectively manage the increase of emergency call volume.

In 2022, Avon Volunteer Fire Department answered 699 calls for service which is an increase of 7% from 2021. AVFD Volunteers also dedicated 34,437 hours of their time to serve the Avon Community.

When selecting and designing new fire apparatus, the department looks for safety, reliability, fleet continuity, and rugged construction. Modern apparatus provides safety to our volunteers and allows our volunteers to deliver superior emergency services to the community of Avon in a time of need.
